Appearances

Macworld 2008 Session Videos Posted

As mentioned in my initial posting, full video of Macworld sessions would be made available. Well, it looks like certain sessions have been made available. Thus far, only my collaboration session has been made available:

IT812: Using Collaboration Services on Mac OS X Server

MacWorld 2008 Session Slides Posted

At a session, people always ask if I'm going to be posting the slides. While I always do, I have long said that slides without the talk are typically of little use. Apparently, this year, all sessions but the "Power User" sessions will be available for download - slides and audio - for free! Exciting!

If, however, you just can't wait, I have both of my session slides available here:

LI222: Learning the Terminal ("Basic Foundation in Command-line Skills as it Relates to OS X")

Presentations at Macworld 2008

So, it's finally up on the website, making it truly official: I'll be speaking again at Macworld. Here's my speaker page:

I'll be leading the following sessions:
IT812: Using Collaboration Services on Mac OS X Server - Leveraging Mac OS X Server's Collaboration Tools

Speaking at the Apple Market Center on OpenDirectory

Looks like I have another speaking date: Tuesday, the 10th of July at the Apple Market Center in Mid-town Manhattan.  The topic this time is OpenDirectory.  I'm just starting to put the slides together now, so, if you'll be there and want something covered, let me know now.

This will be a presentation for the tri-state chapter of the Apple Consultants Network, so, members or by invite only.

Again:

Tuesday, 10th of July
Apple Market Center
(153 E. 53rd Street @ Lexington Avenue, 29th Floor)
6:00 PM

"On Logs" Presentation

Here are QuickTime movies of the presentation that I gave on February 27th to the Tri-State chapter of the Apple Consultants Network.  The topic was "On Logs: How to make the most of the logging data that your machines generate".  I created two different sizes of the preso:

On Logs, 320x240 58.6MB, suitable for iPod
On Logs, 720x480 105.5MB, much better quality

OS X swatch Packages

I really like swatch a lot.  Seems like I've been using it for forever.  I wrote about it a little bit in this month's MacTech.  It also happens to be making an appearance in my presentation this Tuesday.

While swatch compiles and installs cleanly on OS X - even the missing perl packages - some people just like a double-clickable installer.  I made one for each architecture, and they can be had here:

Upcoming Presentations

I've been giving presentations on technical topics in one form or another for as long as I can remember: to co-workers at a company, to groups at companies that request me, or now, independently to groups that voluntarily show up :-).  While all of this started out with casual presentations, things have only been getting more formal.  I have two scheduled presentations that fit this category, and one that still doesn't have a date set.

Happy New Year/MacWorld

Happy 2007! Although time is an abstract, and arbitrary in reality, the new year does provide a nice point for reflection and change. Time to review backup procedures? For your personal machine (think digital photos)? Time to hunker down and dig into a topic that you've always wanted to learn? It's time.

Speaking at Macworld 2006

It's done for me, but I can offer up some details for those who couldn't attend...

First, an incredible amount of work goes on behind the scenes at any large show like like this. My thanks go out to Paul Kent and everyone at IDG for doing this year after year, and knowing how to make things run smoothly. Also to all of the vendors that fly in, take time to set everything up, and then, pretty thanklessly, stand there all day.

IDG sets up a nice "Speaker's Lounge" for anyone who's presenting during the week. I had my picture snapped just outside of the lounge:
