I Love Spam

OK, perhaps love is a bit extreme.  But some of the messages that do make it past the filter do provide me with a few laughs sometimes.  I mean, who can come up with names like Herculaneum L. Pelvises?  Great stuff!!
Also, I do have to give credit to spammers that can evade the filters of today, which are pretty sophisticated.  It's a puzzle; a game.  And each side gets to pick up, move and remove pieces.  We get to use our brain power to challenge and outwit the opponent.  Except, of course, the opponent is us.  Consider it self improvement.  While I may like for all of these cycles to go to curing cancer, working for peace or helping the homeless, that's not current reality.  People send spam, people fight spam (lest e-mail lose all value).  It makes us sharper, and will hopefully have side benefits of its own.

Viruses, too?

Does the same hold true for the virus writers?

It's Different

Well, almost. It is a similar cat-and-mouse game. The difference is in being destructive. Anyone writing a virus that destroys data or causes any type of denial-of-service should a) re-evaluate their lives and intentions, and b) be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
