The nearly-final list of IT conference sessions has been posted, and I'll be speaking again this year. First, I have the similar-to-last-year-but-not-quite-the-same "Management Solutions Using launchd", and on the same day, "Advanced Mail Services on Mac OS X Server". Overall, the sessions in the IT Conference look really great. It will be well worth the trip for anyone in the Macintosh technical field.
I'm really looking forward to both of these sessions. This is the first year that Schoun Regan is heading up the IT track totally. While it was very good before, it's just razor sharp this time. My session last year was all about the boot process and launchd - since launchd now basically handles the boot process (once it is handed control from firmware and the kernel), they're intermingled. The session somehow wound up under the "Imaging" category, which, it really had nothing to do with. That's completely corrected this year. For the launchd session, I can focus entirely on launchd.
"Advanced Mail Services" is completely new. I've been pushing for a session like this for some time, and Schoun took it under advisement. There are many variables that affect your mail environment. Unfortunately, many people arrive there by luck. Or, by having someone else configure services for them. In either case, many people don't really understand the fundamentals of mail delivery. It goes far beyond enabling the service in Server Admin. I hope to educate in this session, along with getting into some of the more advanced aspects of mail delivery and routing. However, in an hour-and-a-half, I know I can only truly focus on one. I have to strike a balance.
So, time to pickup Keynote 3 and focus on the presentations! Hope to see you at MacWorld 2007!
