WWDC 2006

I went, I saw, I....saw some more.  I learned.  I met some fantastically bright people.  I thought I'd have a chance to blog a bit more, but it turns into a very busy week.  I also think that e-mail is easy, but I have to admit that the volume of e-mail I've been dealing with lately is tiring.  You'd think, it's just typing!  But it does take work, and the week of WWDC and the week following just overwhelmed me a bit.

Many people commented on how uninspiring the keynote was, and that Steve Jobs looked 'gaunt'.  Frankly, I think both Steve Jobs and OS X are really showing maturity.  Steve Jobs realizes that he and others from Apple could make some really solid announcements, and keep the crowd happy that way.  No stunts.  Similarly, the next rev of OS X doesn't need to impress you with bells and whistles and a great new Aqua widget.  It's adding in better features under the hood, and stabilizing and improving what's already in place.  Apple really has been listening to feedback from their users (witness the open sourced calendar server and iCal that can now share updates to said server...thank you, Apple!).

While learning was a priority, I went with my MacTech Magazine hat on and got to meet some incredible people that want to contribute articles, tips and tricks and become columnists.  I also met subscribers, people who were curious about the mag, and people who were happy to give feedback about what's been going on.  MacTech has had a fantastic year, and this is the feedback we're after to help improve things even more.  If you haven't subscribed yet, now is the time:

- There's an incredible offer of $9.95 for a subscription on the home page as of this writing.  C'mon!  You can't go wrong for ten bucks!

- I'm working to make sure MacTech has an ever better year.  We have some fantastic pieces coming up that run the gamut of OS X, OS X Server, how to integrate Windows, learning to program and more low-level OS details.

The upshot is this: WWDC 2006 showcased some great technology, great speakers, great company and a great city.  I'd love to be able to talk about everything that went on, but Apple's NDA police would come crashing through my door!  Rest assured that Leopard (10.5) will be worth it.
