MacTech April 2006: It's out!
April! Spring has sprung (well, for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere...), the days are "longer," and the tech world keeps moving. It's a special month for me, also, as this is the first month you'll see my name in the masthead as Executive Editor, a role I've recently undertaken with the magazine. I'm really thrilled to be working with MacTech at this level, especially at a time that it's seeing a rebirth of sorts. This month's cover story details a backup solution based on Retrospect, and a modded G4 that will also backup your data from MySQL. There's all of the regulars, too: Ben Waldie teaching AppleScripting FileMaker, Paul Amman with an intro to VPN technology, and, of course, my Mac In The Shell column, that finishes off my multi-part article on data processing, Mac-style, with sed and awk. So, if you're not getting it, subscribe!
I was just having a conversation with some ACN members about network monitoring, and I mentioned that I like Nagios as a solution. "Nagios?" came the question. Knowing I'm a multi-platform person, I was asked, "does it run on a Mac?" John Welch just had a two-part article that detailed how to install and configure Nagios on OS X in MacTech! This happens in my conversations a lot!
And now, as Executive Editor, I can tell you: the best is yet to come. More about the move to Intel, right from the source, top tips from Microsoft, right from the source, and more about Windows on your Intel Mac, right from the Source Hound, Dean Shavit.
What more could you want? If you're at all responsible for Mac technology, even in some small way, now is the time to get on board! See you in print!
