I know we've had IMAP discussions here before about Mail.app's less-than-stellar application of IMAP standards. Mail.app 3, shipping with OS X 10.5.0 has some nice improvements - the data detectors, etc. The are some annoyances: mail plug-ins are changed, so, developers will need to rewrite them. Here's my two big gripes, though:
1 - Mail.app has been a crash machine, dumping itself about once or twice a day.
2 - Offline changes seem to disappear once you're connected to a network again.
Now, number 2 is much, much worse for me as I work offline a lot. So, I may spend 1/2 hour or so weeding though a large mailing list, deleting entries that I don't want, only to have them 're-appear' once I get back on the grid.
Ouch.
Can anyone else replicate this:
1) Open up mail.app, and access your IMAP-based account.
2) Go offline - use mail.app's menus or yank the cord / turn off airport. Your choice.
3) Open an IMAP folder, and delete some messages (I'm set to leave messages in place then purge, not move to trash).
4) Change back to the inbox.
5) Go back on-line
6) Check the folder where you deleted those messages. Have they 'returned'?
So, it seems as if the IMAP server overrides the client before the client sends its offline changes.

Yes, I also see this, only for me it seems to happen even when I'm online. Any further info? This is an ENORMOUS pain.

I've just been asked for some more info on that radar, so, I'll post here what happens from there.

Seems to be fixed with the Mail.app that shipped with 10.5.1 - "Version 3.1 (914/915)". My radar is still open, but, they'll get that.

OK - I've just been e-mailed that "this issue has been filed in our bug database under the original Bug ID# 2505490." It is a "known issue" and 10.5.1 does not solve the problem.
Here's to 10.5.2!
